Katherine Anderson

Katherine is focused on frontier health technologies at 1955 Capital. She is an experienced medical technology leader in surgical robotic devices and digital platforms with almost two decades of experience at companies like Intuitive Surgical, Verb Surgical, and Johnson & Johnson, translating the needs of surgical specialties that include orthopedics, general, gynecology, urology, thoracic surgery and lung diagnostics, ENT, microsurgery, vascular surgery, and plastics, among others.

Katherine leads her own consulting firm, K2A2Consulting, that assists large companies, startups, medical professionals and academia. She mentors and advises executive staff on design research, test strategies, applications research, building multi-functional teams, design of workspaces and lab facilities, pre-clinical and human factors studies, and launch of clinical trials. She is knowledgeable about all phases of product development, from early research to post market studies.

At Verb Surgical, Katherine built and led a user-centered team for development of the Verb Surgical robot and digital ecosystem. This team was responsible for translation of user needs, procedure development, validation, human factors, and industrial design. Verb Surgical was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in December of 2019.

During her 8 years at Intuitive Surgical, Katherine was a Clinical Development Engineer, leading the clinical engineering team for ION from base concept to first clinical trial. She worked alongside medical experts developing new procedures for the SP, XI, Single-site, and Si systems. Katherine supported government (US and non-US) filings for da Vinci S & SI systems, Endo wrist Instruments and Accessories, Endo-wrist Stapler and Vessel Sealers.

Katherine’s orthopedic experience comes from her time at Smith & Nephew, where she designed and analyzed knee, shoulder, and hip replacement systems.

Katherine holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, rock climbing, backpacking, and stand-up paddle boarding.
