Euan Thomson, Ph.D.

Euan is focused on frontier health technologies at 1955 Capital. He is committed to data-driven healthcare and its potential impact on the quality of decision-making and the efficiency of healthcare delivery. Euan has more than 30 years experience in healthcare spanning CEO roles of both private and public companies, venture capital, research, management, and medical device innovation. Euan previously worked with Andrew and Vijit while a Partner at Khosla Ventures.

At Carl Zeiss Meditec, Euan is the President of Ophthalmic Devices, CEO and Board Chair of Carl Zeiss Meditec and Head of the Digital Business Unit. Managing a motivated, dynamic and highly expert team, Euan is taking the ophthalmic industry to new heights while building a disruptive digital strategy.

As President and CEO of Accuray, Euan created a strategy that took the company from a start-up to global leadership in robotic radiosurgery. He managed clinical and commercial development of products and services for treatments of tumors throughout the body. Euan established distribution channels spanning the Americas, EMEA and APAC, and managed Accuray’s intellectual property portfolio growth from five U.S. patents to more than 300 issued patents. Euan grew revenue to more than $400 million, and guided Accuray through its highly successful IPO in 2007.

As a Partner at Khosla Ventures, Euan built digital health and analytics strategies for a broad range of portfolio companies. As CEO of AliveCor (2013-2015), created data driven patient services resulting in the first FDA cleared algorithms for diagnosis and management of cardiac arrhythmias.

At Samsung, Euan was Head of Digital Health and developed a strategy using advanced wearables and an IoT platform to manage chronic disease.

At Johnson & Johnson, Euan served as Global Head of R&D, Digital Technology and Advanced Innovation, and developed a strategy to integrate digital technologies across the continuum of care. His approach included robotics for General and Orthopaedic Surgery, patient monitoring technologies, and systems to optimize team workflow and professional education. This global, data driven approach was designed to improve outcomes and optimize efficiency.

Euan was also previously Chair of the Board of Hospice of the Valley and Chair of the California Division of the American Cancer Society’s CEO’s Against Cancer. He has been the recipient of Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year (N. California). Euan earned his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Ph.D. in Medical Physics from the University of London.
