GreenBiz: This is Climate Tech

"Climate change is an existential threat to humanity — albeit a longer-term threat than this virus… If your company is focused on helping current and future generations live longer, healthier lives over the decades to come, we’re interested."

Since mid-March, as the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic infected certain sectors of the U.S. economy, more than 200 U.S. startups have cut thousands of jobs. While they’re not immune to the forthcoming fiscal challenges, entrepreneurs developing solutions for addressing climate change — from agtech to decarbonization to clean energy and more — are among those proving to be the most resilient.

In mid-March, Chicago-based alternative protein startup Nature’s Fynd disclosed a healthy infusion of $80 million, bringing its total to $113 million. The firm plans to double its workforce this year, to more than 100 employees… While many of 1955 Capital’s companies are still in stealth, the firm was the lead investor on Nature’s Fynd’s first round of funding and it is also a backer of Crop Enhancement, which is working on ways to boost crop yields while minimizing or eliminating chemical fertilizers.
